SJAB is stands for the St John Ambulance Brigade. Its a venerable organisation which dates back to the crusades of the early 10th/11th century. so, we've been in the business for caring about ppl for about 900 yrs now....
as earlier blogged in my previous post, i've started off in the SJAB since I was in secondary one in 1994. and after i;ve graduated from clementi town sec, i've been helping out since then. attended the Officer Training Course in 2000 and been promoted throught the ranks to my current rank of Corps Staff Officer (grade 4) which is the rank equivalent of a Captain in the Singaporean rank hierarchy context. i've also gotten my 5 yr service medal about 2 yrs ago..which i should have gotten in 1999...the delay was due to 'administrative problems' NHQ was facing...
am currently the acting Officer in Charge (Commanding Officer/The Boss/The big honcho) of a Corps...ie Clementi Town Corps. am the er...'father' to 30+ kids...some graduated from the school; some still there as students. am also one of Zone Nine's youth affairs officers. in youth affairs, we handle youth related projects and assist the individual cadet or Corps as a whole achieve more cadet proficiency badges. just only recently in September 2004, i've volunteered as the administrations officer of the 28th basic nco course. a leadership course for our 13/14 yr old cadets to train them up for harder things to come in life (we hope)...am kinda proud that 3 of my kids got the best trainee award...but then thats wad i come to expect from some of them. during my short few months tenure as the admin officer or the AO., i've come to adopt another family...the Operations Committee or OPSCOM family...a bunch of like minded fun ppl..from the other diff Corps in the Zone (a zone is a collective of various schools) same frequency, same craziness level...bunch of madcaps working together and play together as well...ohhh..dun let me mention about UNO nite hahahahha...........
whether in the Corps or the OPSCOM, i feel that i'm very blessed and very fortunate to be surrounded by hard working dedicated ppl. who are commited to make things happen form themselves and their fellows. very often, i'm awed by their strength in their conviction be it a CPL or a grade 6 junior officer (one pip/2LT equiv.) i feel humbled to be working in the prescence of such individuals...and u can literally feel their energies, makes u wanna get up and going on and on and nvr saying quit. ...
anyhow, all this is being overshadowed (in a negative manner) by my work as the zone youth affiars officer but certain someones at our natioanl HQ....due to the HIGH possibility of my cadets reading this, i'm not putting in anything specific, but its primary onus would be the words in-efficiency, hi-offness, arrogance, selfishness, political bickering and more bad stuff...watch this space for all my rants. me and my fellow officers Colin & Weisheng are putting up with more crap then we're usually handling, very soon, This pressure gauge will blow up...pretty soon....
for nw...i'll see if i can retire from the brigade and concentrate on my career in say 2./3 yrs time..wait for 10 yrs service medal (looks nice on a resume u know...) and well any other projects which will help me agin experience along the way....we'll see how...
