well, i'll try to be brief. especially the previous 2 long posts heh~ tired n sianz of reading? some on ya might be thinkning, wheres the love, the sex the f***%!*#() experiences? ehh sorri ahh...i'm a decent person *ahem* and i intend to stick the blog this way...of course time n time again i will defintely curse and swear but i'm only human right?
right back on topic, my NS life. where shall i start...oh yeah..bmt
was enlisted in to Basic Military Training Center School One, Echo Company (for the er..bigger sized obese ppl) hours later was shifted to my 'home' for 4 months, Gryphon company. loved the life there, had fun and stuff. the fun part was learning how to handle the weapons and stuff, the comaradarie, the atmosphere etc. ok lah
i enjoyed being there. go some pains and had to conquer some aspects of my fear of heights..but wad to do...have to do it..i was lucky to have instructors who cared for their men and were willing to take care of them. Think i did well in my situation tests and i specifically requested posting to the navy due to my er...experience with marine systems..but i couldn't pass my IPPT which was the SAF version of NAPFA physical fitness tests. I might have made it OCS to persue my dreams of being a ship or sub driver, but the fates i guess had other plasn for me....
After my Passing out Parade in early December 2003, I was posted to Air Force School (AFS), Air Engineering Training Institute (AETI) Wing, Airframe & Engine (AE) Section. AFS was a place where all airforce trainees went and attended courses. Pilot and officer trainees (regulars & NSF), senior technicians (regulars) and NSF technicians. (Being a regular in the armed forces means that your employed with the armed forces/signed on for a career).
So there i was being envious of the officer trainees and trying to get over the fact that i failed to get into my career of my dreams... sighz...I was sooo depressed at times that i failed modules while at AETI. That led me to be retained for another 2 weeks while my friends in the same class were posted to Sembawang & Tengah Airbases. I'd already knew I would land up in Sembawang due to my posting into the Rotary Wing class. So in early March i 'marched' into Sembawang airbase and reported in into 120 Squadron (which operates the old UH1H Huey helicopters) for my OJT phase or 'On Job Training'. For another four months, i was again subjected to training. I then realised I'd been a trainee for a long time....
my instructors in 120SQN were a bunch of nice ppl-to say the least. I've learned alot from them and after i passed out of the course. they remain someone i could enlist help from, advice etc...
currently, i'm an authorised composite crew chief(CCC)-airframe technician. Wad this means is that there are 3 trades altogether, airframe, avionics and engine. i only perform the airframe part of the daily servicing. Regulars in my squadron are usually the DCC or Dedicated Crew Chiefs. They studied all 3 trades and for the Senior Technicians DCC, plus they're trained in diagnostic courses. Being an Airframe-man, my job is to perform check on anything thats nothing todo with the engine or the inside compartment avionics. so...yeah, basically the WHOLE aircraft on the outside is my responsibility....shell structure, tail n main rotor blades n connecting parts and systems.... =p
but i like being in my SQN, beats being anywhere else....except the navy of course... we're operating an old aircraft thats basically been around since the Vietnam war, heck we BOUGHT our aircraft from the US Army adn these aircraft served during that late lamented war period...but of course, we replaced parts here and there, polished up spots etc...but she's still noisy as ever..and produces a strong rotor downwash...i'll miss the aircraft when we close down, but i won't miss the servicing i'm performing ahahah....due to the fact that the split pins holding the components securly, enable us airframe-men to er....contribute our DNA to the aircraft... SO this means the entire fleet of UHIH have samples of our DNA embedded somewhere in some parts fo the aircraft...
so! i'll be doing all this including my secondary appointment of being a safety member (i'm not all that safe..look at the DNA i'm contributing...) all they way till X'mas this yr...
