Part One: The Part about who I am, my dream, dream career, hobbies etc

I'm the one and only Wayne Tan HS...HS are my initials of my chinese name given to me by my dear late paternal grandfather. I garnered info from my mom that I was born at around 7:30pm on the 9th of September 1981, which makes me 24 this coming year of 2005. When my mom was in labour, for some reason, my dad thought i wasn't 'coming out yet' so he'd went to the hospital cafeteria to get something to eat & drink. hmmz that perhaps explains why i'm closer to my mom and not my dad as much. my yngr bro is as my dad was around. Dad was plain tired of waiting for me as i'd put my mom into labour for a period of 12 hours...(Ouch) hehe...and yet some say my sense of timing is impeccable...

Some friends call me 'winnie, waynie, ah wayne, ah wing (dun ask me why). i'm juz ur normal average person living out life on this planet. In the zodiac, i'm a Virgo, born to be cursed with perfectionism and going about to do things in my life. In chinese astrology, i'm born in the year of the rooster, and according to my mom again, my 'special dieties' in the chinese heavenly pantheon are the Goddes of Mercy & the Lord of the Sun. Till now i have ABSOLUTELY no idea to what this all means...but i try to understand as it is within my heritage. I'm also born under the sign of the God Anubis in ancient egyptian mythology...i dunno if its good or bad, cos its very contradictive. as because...Anubis is the jackel headed god of mummification (yep..the process of turning dead bodies in to mummies) and of last death rites. So....lots to ponder on ehh...my number has lots to do with witchcraft too. 9x9=81. 8+1=9. 9+9=18. 1+8=9 and 9 is the three of threes number..and we all know from watching charmed, the blair witch project etc that the number 3 is a witchy number....which explains why i feel prescences of ppl around even there's no one around. strangly though most of the times, i feel calm and un-perturbed. juz normal but with a healthy respect for the unknown.

Kindergarten years were spent at the Faith Methodist Church Kindergarten at the Church of the same name. The church still stands near Commonwealth MRT. Spent 2 yrs there, not the usual 3 yrs now kids are doing. For my batch, there wasn't an additional ye called Nursery befor K1 & K2. From there on, moved onto Pei Tong primary in Clementi. My classmates from P6 still meet up on occasion and i've grown MUCh taller now hehe...i was a small little fish fry in P6 and was complaining about how ppl were inching up on me..including the females...now its the other way around..i'm one of the taller ones in my reunion grp...From there I then moved onto Clementi Town Secondary for 5 yrs ( was in the Normal Acad stream). 5 yrs is not too bad, gave me more time to develop and think at my own pace.. Mostly i belong to the 'late-bloomer' batch. bunch of kids who had potential as anyone else, juz developing at my own pace (taking own seeetttt time) and opening up to society too. I remember I was SOOOOO geeky and a complete idiot (with abso-freakin-lutely no dress sense + hair in a mess, dun care + bo chup) in sec sch. i Only have a few good friends from sec sch. think one of them got married (malays tend to get married earlier) and the other classmates? one died from an accident, alot gave up on life cos they didn't study hard enough. only a few I might say are leading the normal life, girls working, guys in NS or just starting work...it was in sec sch (CTSS) that i began my CCA (ECA then) with SJAB. more about SJAB in my 2nd introduction entry. after CTSS, came SP-SMA. Singapore Polytechnic, Singapore Maritime Academy...following my dreams and reading Marine Engineering. some achievements there...3rd place for a national competition about innovation in the maritime industry and good stuff about my work during industrial attachment...

My dream job was actually to enlist in the navy and emerge as an officer, either developing hovercraft technology
for naval combat use or technology for littorial or stealth warfare. (hehe, fans/readers of author of James Cobb, u know what i'm talking about), be a submarine (refered to as sewer pipes by the Americans) driver or a stealth destroyer/stealth frigate driver. (for the un-navalised ppl, to be a driver is to conn or take command of the vessel, to be the ship's commander/master/commanding officer) taking a ship or a cruise out into the sea is a refreshing and soothing thing. the thought of leaving your worries n thoughts behind of those you left on land is like lifting a great load from your shoulders and soul....

BUT all came crashing down and I couldn;t pass my IPPT (napfa in the SAF) and was posted to the...*insert drumroll and duck wail* the AIR FORCE...more about that later in part 3 of my entry. now i can look forward to my job in the maritime industry...maybe i still have a hope in dealing with naval tech in the maritime sector yet...

i simply love stuff to do wif ships. one of my best gal-friends, Siti Arbaiyah, once told me rather jokingly that maybe I would prefer having sex with ships instead of women (think about the numerous orifices-for sewater discharge, freshwater production, bilge transfer....) onboard.....cos evertime we go to the beach, i would always GUSH about the ships in the eastern anchorage or at Republic of Singapore Yatch Club. (and my friends, Justin, Si Wei, Jia Rong, Norain, Zaid would juz shake their heads. Justin though, would most likely wring my neck...) For me, just sitting there and admiring a ferry, 100,000 ton oil tanker or cruise boat, watching her helmsman driving the boat or ship, the sleek lines or a sloop or rough vintage of a tanker... and how the ship ploughs thru water is always a thrill to watch. I would just plain sit there, sipping beer, water, wine or lime vodka, coke and watch the sun set, the waves, the breeze, the salty air...sighz......oh did i mention my dream home is a unit in the Condo called The Carribean...juz along the Keppal Bay waterfront. waking up to the view of Sentosa and her monorails every day..PLUS in full view of the sea..morning day thru nite....dreamy...mahchiam live in a sea-front chalet everyday...heh...

I 'm a lover of music. especially Lounge/Chillout music, (recently launched is a radio station under Mediacorps radio called Lush 99.5 Fm----YAY!!!). Lounge or chill out music is sometimes called down-tempo music. you can go to HMV to learn or to sample some tracks there...Modern Pop n rock, alternative, some classical some new age like Yanni, Mike Oldfield, some heavy hitters like Linkin park appeal to me. Classically wise, Bond, and Tchaikovsky is absolutely groovy and a few tracks of dance (house type0 is a musthave in my music list. I LURRVVVEEE the Corrs...a fan of which since i was in sec sch...and from the Corrs, to the Irish dance and music sensatinal show Riverdance, which got me started to play the drums, the Irish Tin whistle (recorder like instrument, but lighter, smaller, cuter, 6 holed and higher octave range than the old boring recorder) and the Irish Frame drum called the bodhran (pronounced bow-rawn). The bodhran is played on the lap with a stick called a beater. I dun profess to be a good musician or know alot about the music i'm playing (celtic wise) but i'm trying despite my time constarints and sacrifices to SJAB and NS and my studies...

surprised to find out that i'm still studying despite being in NS? find out more in part 4....

for those of you who ARE OVER 18....lime vodka on you ppl anytime...heh

(wanna know wads a tin whistle? head on down to www.chiffandfipple.com Got pics there for ya to view those lovelies...)
